Work on project starts to convert street lights on solar energy

PESHAWAR: In a bid to overcome power loadshedding and to reduce electricity expenditures, the provincial government has chalked out a strategy and started converting street lights on solar.
Department of Energy and Power and Department of Municipal Administration have chalked out a joint strategy to initially convert all street lights in the cantonment area to solar, an official of energy department said here on Monday.
He said the provincial government has allocated Rs. 100 bln in the current fiscal year to all street lights of the city to solar.
The official said that solar panels are being installed in Saddar area and Mall Road on experimental basis, and later would be extended to whole city.
