2013 BMW X4 SAV CROSSOVER CONCEPT: THIS IS IT

German luxury car giant BMW has just unveiled the 2013 X4 SAV crossover concept, the latest addition to the X range of crossovers and SUVs in the BMW range. The X4, which will slot in between the X3 and X5 SUVs is a sports activity vehicle(SAV) in BMWspeak. The crossover combines the ground clearance and rugged appeal of an SUV with the sleek coupe like roofline of a sedan. The resultant mishmash is a sharply styled crossover that’s the second SAV in BMW’s range, after the love-me-hate-me X6 SAV, the car that started it all. BMW calls the X4 a Sports Activity Coupe and production will begin in early 2014.
The BMW X4 concept will be officially unveiled at the upcoming 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. Engine details of the 2013 BMW X4 remain under close wraps at this point in time. However, it would be safe to expect both petrol and turbo diesel engine options to be offered with the latest BMW SAV. The crossover that looks like  coupe on stilts when viewed side on comes with snazzy styling bits. The headlamp is an all new item and is a remarkable departure from the usual twin barrelled units that have come to be staples from BMW. Instead, you get a squarer design with day time running lamps integrated into the headlamps.

The front end of the 2013 BMW X4 shows off the traditional twin kidney grille and the chunky front bumper adds some visual heft to the front end of the car. At the rear too, the X4′s design adopts a butch stance with a massive rear bumper and a bumper insert added into the equation. A unique design cue in the car is the way in which the exhaust muffler tips have been shaped. This shape is quite unique and an never seen before design element on a car wearing the BMW badge on the bonnet. BMW is yet to release images of the interiors.
BMW is betting big on the SUV and crossover space. While the car maker has four SUVs/Crossovers in its current line up, such as the X1, X3, X5 and X6, the X4 SAV will be the latest addition. In the coming years, two more SUVs in the form of the X2 and X7 could be added to BMW’s line up. A similar strategy is being pursued by another German luxury car maker Audi, which has plans of expanding the Q range of crossovers with Q2, Q4 and Q6 models. From the looks of it, Audi and BMW could lock horns in many a SUV battle ground across the globe.
