Taipei, Jan. 17 (CNA) The Nexus 7 tablet computer, co-branded by Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc. and U.S. search engine Google Inc., became the top seller in Japan last month, ending the reign of Apple Inc. that started with the launch of the iPad there in May 2010.
The 7-inch mobile device accounted for 44.4 percent of Japan's tablet sales in December, beating the 40.1 percent for the iPad to give it first place among all vendors, according to Japan's BCN sales rankings, released Wednesday.
BCN said the success of Nexus 7 is the result of its relatively low pricing, while a supply shortage for Apple's smaller model, the iPad mini, at the end of last year also hit the American electronics giant's market share in Japan.
