Pakistan: Cellular services suspended in Karachi

Islamabad: Cellular services in Pakistan's port city Karachi were suspended on Monday over security concerns. The city was also issued a notification to ban pillion riding in the city. On Sunday too, cellphone services remained suspended for 3 hours between 7 pm and 10 pm in many provinces of Karachi.
As the country's interior ministry directed phone companies to suspend mobile phone services, it led to halting of the mobile networks.
The suspension of mobile services took place in Karachi at 2 am on early Monday morning, Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) sources told. The plug was pulled over security concerns and no timeframe has been given about resumption of the services.
The sources added that mobile services would also be blocked along the route of Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri’s long march from Lahore to Islamabad and that services would begin resuming in the areas once the march has crossed them.
