Sony's latest offering Xperia SP and Xperia L will be available in India beginning second quarter of 2013
With the launch of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered Xperia SP and Xperia L, Sony further spices up the mid-range smartphone market segment. As you would expect from a brand known for style, the Xperia SP and Xperia L doesn't disappoint.
Powered by Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2, the Xperia SP smartphone comes fitted with a 4.6-inch handset with an LCD display with 720p resolution at 319 pixels-per-inch (ppi).
It is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro MSM8960 dual core chip clocked at 1.7GHz and Adreno 320 GPU. One of the strongest feature of the device is its battery life which Sony claims assures a talk time of up to 10 hours and 25 minutes and standby time of up to 635 hours.
In terms of styling in borrows elements from its siblings - Xperia Z and Xperia U. The bodywork is mostly plastic with aluminium trim, similar to the Xperia Z form factor, minus the Dragontrail glass back panel. It also flaunts a LED illumination strip like Xperia U which can be configured and set to different colors representing your moods, pulse to music or to display incoming calls.
Also onboard is a 8-megapixel Sony Exmor RS camera with 1080p video capture and a VGA front facing shooter. The NFC-enabled device also provides 8GB of onboard storage which can be extended up to 32GB using a Micro SD card and connectivity options via Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi.
The other stylish sibling, the Xperia L bears a close resemblance to Xperia T - showing off the same curved back panel and angular fascia. The smartphone is low-specced when compared with Xperia SP and is bound to be priced accordingly, a tad bit on the lower-side.
This device ships with a 4.3-inch LCD display with 854x480 pixel resolution at 228ppi and a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip. It also features the same Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with Sony’s custom UI sitting on top. The similarities further extend to NFC capabilities, storage capacity, camera setup and the customisable LED illumination strip.
Expected to hit shelves in the second quarter of 2013, there is no news on the pricing yet, but expect it to be parked between 15,000- 19,000.
