Hydel power projects to provide 6,500MW

Federal Minister Water & Power Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar has said that Private Power Infrastructure Board would complete 15 hydel power projects soon which would help generate 6,500 megawatt power.

The meeting of the PPIB chaired by Chaudhary Mukhtar was held in Islamabad.
The meeting was told that the above projects are in the last phase of completion.
The meeting also decided to let WAPDA initiate a new 7,100 megawatt hydel power project at a Benji and another new 590 mw hydel power project in Azad Jammu & Kashmir with the assistance of private sector.
The minister said on the occasion that loan facilities from banks are being made easy to encourage inexpensive power generation from coal. He also termed the inclusion of 2,530 megawatt into national power grid encouraging.
