Honda takes preorders for 2015 Acura NSX supercar two years before production

Despite being two years away from production, the Acura NSX supercar is already available for sale. Reponse to the concept model's debut in January 2012 at the Detroit auto show has been so strong that the automaker has begun taking deposits for the car in the UK. Beyond its mid-mounted V6 engine, no other specs for the production version of the car have been confirmed.

The NSX is still in development and its final specifications are yet to be announced, but interest has been so great that Honda has been forced to start taking orders some two years before it is ready to hit the showrooms.

Response to its NSX concept that debuted in January 2012 in Detroit has been so strong that Honda has already made pre-orders available for the car. Honda doesn't expect the concept to go into production for at least two more years.
For a £5,000 ($7,626) deposit, potential owners in the UK can make sure that they will be among the first to get behind the wheel of the NSX when it officially hits showrooms in 2015. Honda started taking official pre-orders in the UK on Thursday and has already received over 20 deposits, despite the fact that none of the car's final specifications have been confirmed, other than its powertrain.

The new NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected V6 engine mated to Honda's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system. It will also utilize two electric motors that will power the front wheels for extra grip and stability at high speeds but also to reduce pollution and increase fuel economy.
Honda -- or Acura in the US -- has been without a flagship sportscar since the original NSX ceased production in 2005. The car, which was developed with input from legendary Formula One driver Aryton Senna, earned the nickname of the reliable Ferrari because of its build quality and sold 18,000 units over its 15-year production run. Honda is yet to announce whether the pre-registration service, which is now liveon its UK website, will be offered internationally or remain exclusive to British consumers.
