Prince Harry announced he will be joining military veterans with amputated limbs on a race in Antarctica this winter as part of charity Walking With The Wounded.
The 28-year-old British royal and soldier announced Friday he will take part in the event in support of the UK’s Walking With The Wounded charity.
The organisation hosts sporting events for military veterans as part of re-training and re-educating serviceman and women.
Four soldiers with amputated limbs will make up Prince Harry’s team during their expedition to the South Pole.
British newspaper The Mirror reports he is proud to dash through the frigid region alongside Guy Disney, 30, Kate Philp, 34, Duncan Slater, 34, and Ibrar Ali, 36.
"As a member of the British team, I will have a brew on ready for you when you join us at the Pole,” Prince Harry chuckled to reporters during a press event held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London.
"These men and women have given their all in the cause of freedom, in our cause.
"That they should once again step into the breach - this time facing down the extreme physical and mental challenges of trekking to the South Pole – just underlines their remarkable qualities.
"So, what are these qualities? Courage…to be sure.
"Physical strength, endurance, a sense of comradeship…absolutely.
"But there’s something else, something deeper than that. Something that continues to draw me back to this charity and these people time and again – and always will.
"It’s toughness of mind.
"An unquenchable spirit that simply refuses to say ‘I am beaten’.
"In a way it’s something that can’t be defined."
The four-week race will take place in November and December.
Participants will trek over 210 miles of terrain in subzero temperatures with winds blowing up to 50 miles-per-hour.
Prince Harry and his team represents Britain and they will compete with other veterans from the United States and the Commonwealth.
