Microsoft Outlook may be coming to the Windows RT platform. A report today from Supersite for Windowssays that the software has been spotted running on Surface RT tablets, though there hasn't been any confirmed release date. The article goes on to claim that a bug in the ARM chipset was the reason for the delay.
The email application, arguably a major component of Microsoft Office, is a notable omission on the Windows RT version of Office--preloaded on all Windows RT devices. Adding Outlook RT would hence bring Office RT (which currently includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) on par with the software on other platforms.
Unlike PCs which are powered by Intel processors, Windows RT computers use ARM processors that are typically found in mobile devices. Windows RT devices run a limited version of Windows 8 that can only install apps from the Windows Store.
This is welcome news for those who are considering a Surface RT tablet. Microsoft has been gradually expanding the availability of the slate to more territories--in fact, it's going on sale today in Singapore.
